Helping Students Understand Physics, Maths, and Engineering
I am Jose, a tutor specializing in physics, mathematics, and engineering. I work with students in the UK, the US, and other parts of the world through online lessons designed around their learning needs. With more than 20 years of teaching experience and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, I help students understand difficult topics, solve problems with confidence, and build skills they can use in exams and beyond.
My aim is to make complex subjects easier to understand. A formula can seem confusing when students only memorize steps without knowing why they work. I focus on the ideas behind each method, explain them in clear language, and guide students through worked examples. This helps them become more confident and independent learners.
Every student starts from a different place. Some need help with the basics, while others want to prepare for an exam or work through advanced university topics. I take time to understand each student's current knowledge, goals, and areas of difficulty before planning a session.
My classes are relaxed and focused. Students can ask questions, revisit challenging ideas, and practise solving problems at a pace that suits them. I use an approach influenced by ultralearning, with an emphasis on active practice and clear learning goals. I encourage regular practice between lessons to help ideas become familiar.
During lessons, I aim to help students:

Apply formulas and methods to different types of problems.
Build sound study habits and prepare more effectively for exams.
My Teaching Approach
Subjects I Teach
I provide tutoring for high school, A-Level, AP, and university-level study. Lessons are tailored to the syllabus, subject, and goals of each student.
Mathematics and Engineering
I also help students develop the maths and technical knowledge needed for their courses. Topics may include:
Calculus and statistics
Mechanics, statics, and dynamics
Thermodynamics and heat transfer
Fluid mechanics and mechanics of materials
Electromagnetism, circuits, and related engineering topics
Whether you are revising for an exam, catching up on a topic, or tackling a demanding module, I can shape lessons around the material you need to understand.
Physics and Exam Preparation
I support students studying A-Level Physics and AP Physics, as well as GCSE preparation across relevant exam boards, including AQA, OCR A, OCR B, and Edexcel. We can work on core concepts, exam-style questions, problem-solving, and areas that need extra practice.
Online Lessons That Fit Your Needs
Online tutoring makes it possible to learn from different locations while keeping lessons personal and interactive. Sessions usually last around 55 minutes. I may use Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or another suitable platform. We can also use class notes, practice questions, recordings, and other learning materials where appropriate.
I teach students from British and American education systems and have supported more than 300 students on their academic journeys at universities in the UK and US. Each student's needs are different, so I focus on steady progress rather than a one-size-fits-all plan.
